First Aid Classes

The Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Center of New England offers First Aid classes to the general public for free at certain locations in the Metro West area of Boston.

These classes are designed to teach you, the pet owner, the basics regarding the most common pet emergencies and how to recognize if something is wrong with your pet.
Our classes are interactive, involving a workshop with you and your pet so we can teach you how to get a pulse, heart beat, check the gums, and get a temperature, set up a first aid kit, safe transport and even bandage application.

Classes are about 1-2 hrs in duration and are a lot of fun. Many of our clients have attended and always say how much valuable information they learned about caring for their pets. Our goal is to prepare the pet owner for getting their pet to us in an emergency situation. Remember, the best way to handle any emergency with your pet is being prepared!

These classes are a must for getting prepared and knowing your dog’s normal status so that when he gets sick or becomes injured, you will be able to act quickly and calmly.

Pet Loss Support Group

We at VESCONE recognize the important role pets play in people’s lives. We are offering, free-of-charge, a pet loss support group on the first Wednesday of every month. The group will run from 7:00 P.M. until 8:30 P.M. and will be facilitated by our grief counselor, Judy Stone, LICSW.

This pet loss support group will present an opportunity to share feelings and gain support during the painful aftermath of a pet’s death. Unlike with human loss, the social environment tends to minimize pet loss and devalue its overwhelming impact. The goal of the group will be to help participants validate their feelings and, through mutual support and guidance from the facilitator, understand and move through the grief process in an atmosphere of safety, warmth and compassion.

For more information or to sign up, please call the Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Center of New England at 781-684-8387.

Prior to joining the group, an optional telephone consultation with the facilitator can be available.

Classes are held :

The first Wednesday of every month - 7:00pm
at VESCONE

Due to the July 4th holiday, it will be held on July 11th at 7:00PM.
